Recently we have seen a number of our customers getting misleading information in Google Analytics. Most of them have come from porn websites, which immediately brings into question the security of the website. In times past this was the result of an attack or disgruntled web designer. Upon further inspection there were not security breaches and the website was working correctly, but a loophole in Google Analytics that allows disreputable people to add referrals.
"These referrals that show up in GA are commonly called Ghost Referrer Spam because they don’t really visit your page. They show up in Google Analytics by hitting random tracking-ID’s (the number associated with your site) . The purpose of these spammers is to drive some traffic to a “dark-forum” with more spam and a bunch of ads, so for any reason try to visit these sites."
